The <Mottgol Hanok Children's Library> is a public library located in Gangnam-gu, which opened on November 29, 2017, and recently celebrated its 5th anniversary.

Unlike most libraries where you enter through the main entrance and pass the lobby or information desk to access the reading rooms, <Mottgol Hanok Children's Library> seems to offer library services right from the moment you encounter the tranquil Hanok courtyard, pavilion, and resting areas. I believe that the role of a library in serving its users is not limited to providing services through physical materials but also in creating a conducive environment for focused reading. Nowadays, libraries have expanded their role beyond basic library functions like resource usage and borrowing, transforming into multi-cultural spaces.

Furthermore, <Mottgol Hanok Children's Library> stands out as a special library that not only serves as a multi-cultural space but also provides emotional healing as a Hanok library. It has received high praise for offering various participation programs that naturally instill an understanding of history and culture, especially targeting adult and young users who may have a lack of knowledge about traditional culture.

To operate a specialized library with diverse features and programs, the dedicated role of the librarian is essential. During my visit to the library, I had the chance to meet the librarians who tirelessly worked on various library programs and organizing shelves, both on weekdays and weekends. Their passion and pride in <Mottgol Hanok Children's Library> were evident, and their efforts were highly recognized as the library received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award in the 2022 National Library Operation Evaluation.

<Mottgol Hanok Children's Library> consists of multiple Hanok buildings, including Yulhyeon Hall, Jayang Hall, Yangji Hall, an open resting area, a children's farmer's garden, and a traditional swing. Each space has a unique role and purpose.

Yulhyeon Hall is a place where traditional cultural programs such as Mottgol Seodang and Cheonjamun are conducted, and it also exhibits traditional artifacts.

Jayang Hall houses the library's resource room, toddler reading room, and children's reading room. It provides a sunny corridor where adults can read books comfortably.

Yangji Hall serves as a multimedia program room and can also be used as a meeting place for club activities.

The open resting area at the back of the library allows visitors to enjoy snacks and take a break.

The children's farmer's garden is a space where children cultivate indigenous seeds together.

The traditional swing provides an opportunity for families to experience the traditional activity of making fermented soybean paste.

Among the various Hanok facilities in the library, there are cozy reading seats and bookshelves arranged on the traditional wooden floors. How would children feel reading English comic books at the Hanok Children's Library? I highly recommend visiting and experiencing it for yourself.

Inside the library, you will find comfortable reading spaces and bookshelves. <Mottgol Hanok Children's Library> provides a warm and cozy atmosphere, as all indoor spaces are heated. It feels like reading in a comfortable and warm home library.

The library constantly updates various cultural events and activities to provide a unique reading culture. You can check the library's schedule on its website.
